I wish all the parents could have
been out on the hills Thursday night
at COC. We actually had to work to
hold the kids back before starting
each of the intervals. That's the
kind of work ethic that will take us
a long way this season!
This week we'll begin to settle in
to a more typical workout schedule.
Here's what the week will include...
Monday-
Heritage Park
This will be an easy, conversational
run. We'll push the kids just a
little further in distance. We'll
try and get each group to the next
1/2 mile marker on the paseo.
Tuesday- Saugus High Track
We'll be running mile time trials
tonight. Come ready to run an all
out mile! We'll use these times to
group the kids for future track
workouts and tempo runs.
Thursday-
College of the Canyons
Back to the hills. This work will be
so important as we approach our
second meet at
Pierce College and our third
meet at Mount Sac. If you didn't
know, Mount Sac is the equivalent of
Fenway Park or Yankee Stadium
for XC. We want to look good on
those famous hills!
Saturday-
Central Park
This will be a tempo run. A little
stronger than easy but not quite
race pace. Most of the kids were
running this pace this past
Saturday.
Speaking of pace...it's going to be
very important, as we begin some
more challenging workouts, to
understand the difference between
easy, tempo and race pace. We'll be
talking about running on a scale of
1 to 10.
*Monday should be easy. That means a
6 or 7 out of 10. You should be able
to have a conversation during the
entire run and not have to walk.
*Tuesday night's mile time trial
should feel like a 10. This is the
night to leave everything on the
track.
*Saturday's tempo run will be about
an 8 on our scale of 1 to 10.
I'm looking forward to another great
week! Until then...
