TRACK AND FIELD INFORMATION

Track & Field season begins the third week of February and runs through the month of May

The Storm Track Club practices will be up to 4 evenings per week. We are still working on finalizing our permits with the local high schools, We are working on securing Valencia High School and Saugus High School. We will update our calendar once we have our permits.

Practice times are 6:00 - 7:30 PM evenings, 9:00 - 11:00 AM on Saturdays

The athletes train in age groups  that are the divisions set by the conference we compete in. They are Gremlins 6-8 Years old, Bantams 9-10, Midgets 11-12, Youth 13-14, and Intermediate 15-16. Each group has a staff of coaches who assist us in training and conditioning your child to achieve their best performance. Distance athletes (the athletes who will run the 3000, and 1500 meter events regardless of age group) train together and sometimes run on the Valencia Paseos off campus, or through the neighborhood around Saugus HS, and Central Park.

In most cases our coaches will try to guide your child in a direction that will be most beneficial to your child performance in the sport. This is done by feedback from your child to the coach about the child's interests.

As we get closer to the season and the schedule gets set items will be put onto the calendar. The calendar is always subject to change, but we like to keep it up to date, so it is a very good source of information about what we are planning. The calendar has a date and time stamp in the upper left hand corner, that will change if there has been an update.

At our parent meeting we will explain our program how it works and answer most if not all your questions about the program. It is important that you attend the meeting, we have 2 of them on the same night, 5:45 will be for families that have Gremlin age athletes, please try to attend this meeting, it is not necessary to bring the kids to the parent meeting but if you don't have a sitter then by all means do bring them.

Volunteers are a must, and we would like to ask you to help out as much as you can. If your interested in coaching please contact Elaine Bingham via email by clicking her name. All coaches and volunteers who have direct contact with the athletes must pass a background screening check. If you are interested, there is a link for the screening in the right-hand column.

VALLEY YOUTH CONFERENCE
The Valley Youth Conference simply put is the Best Conference in Southern California, having been in existence since 1966. The Conference acts as a governing body with well established playing rules and standards that are first and foremost, fair to all competitors. The Valley Youth Conference Track & Field competition is exclusive to its members and guest clubs.
Through associations with our member teams, we provide some of the best sporting events in the country. Our Standards have been well established using technology to its fullest. The Valley Conference has required all sprint events to use fully automatic timing systems since 2002, being the first conference in the nation to go fully automatic in timing sprint events. In most cases our results are posted on this website the same day the event takes place. Some clubs post they're results during the meets, which is unique to this conference allowing results to be seen live via smart phones and tablets.
We are a non-profit all volunteer organization devoted to youth through athletics. We offer a year round sports program through football, track & field , cross country, and cheerleading for boys and girls ages 5 to 18. Our goal is to provide a safe, healthy environment for our youth to develop in both athletics and citizenship. We encourage scholastic achievement, and have annually awarded thousands of dollars in academic scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have participated in one of our many athletic programs. We encompass the entire San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Antelope Valley, Pasadena, West Los Angeles area, and Simi Valley.
The Valley Youth Conference helps develop and guide the youth of today into the leaders of tomorrow. Over the past forty years our members have grown up and returned to the Valley Youth Conference as leaders, coaches and volunteers to give children the same opportunities, benefits and rewarding memories that can last a lifetime to the over 5,000 families that participate annually.

NEW RULE CHANGES FOR 2014
The biggest changes for 2014 is that

Gremlins now have a qualifying standard to be able to go to League Championship Meet and IECs.

IECs will be held this year at Valley College, a 10 Lane Track, therefore the top 4 athletes from each league plus the next 2 fastest times will advance to IECs in the Sprint events.

No change to Distance or Field Events.

Intermediate boys now throw a 10 lbs shot put.

Lifetime certification - Conference contract stays in effect until revoked

Various Cross Country changes. Tie breaker for team scoring.
